Have you ever been excited about something that you couldn’t accomplish on your own? I guess I really could accomplish what I want to it’s just a little bit hard… and rather scary with the duty vs desire argument. Alright, so here’s what I’m looking at doing:
Creating a template for the new shopping cart on Archmaille Designs
Moving everything over and 301 redirecting all current shopping cart items
Adding all currently made up items to the stock of Archmaille Designs including chainmail armor
Creating sub-directories with CakePHP for armor creation, guys jewelry, copper/healing jewelry, and Nerd Bling to add specialized categories for Archmaille Designs
Promote all new, and old jewelry items to where they get some sort of search engine rankings
Create PDF’s on jewelry care, chainmail creation instructions, and anything else relevant
Set up commission tables and get items listed on Commission Junction so other people can sell products for me (mostly PDFs)
Now I can get most of this done by the end of the month… some of it will still need to be done later. The problem comes when at the moment Archmaille Designs accounts for a very small portion of my income. I would like for it to be accounting for more, but in order to do that well I have to get all of this done and have at least 100 products for sale in my store. In order to get all of this done by the end of the month I’ve got to put all my energies into that (besides what is going into the wedding planning and what not). If I do that however I lose income… with the paid postings with blogs it takes 30 days from the time that I submit a post until I actually get paid for it… Right now I’ve got $450 that will be coming in over the next 30 days for my paid posts… that just covers the bills for now in combination with what I’ve already got in the bank, and I need to continue posting to pay them again after January… In order to do that I’ve got to be writing posts now… or I need to have a job in the beginning of January. I don’t mind having a job in January, and was actually looking at either MAST, or LifeTouch… LifeTouch is only seasonal, but if I can get my site stuff done, and promoting stuff while working there things will work out by the time it’s over. The problem is with how the economy is the job market is flooded, and it will be more competitive to get either one of those jobs. So if I take the risk and try to get my site up and running by the end of the month, and neither of those jobs are available… well I’m screwed… if I don’t take the risk, well I’ll be all depressed, sullen and just generally no fun to hang around

It’s been several days since Valve has updated their hit zombie co-op shooter Left 4 Dead but the developer has now issued a new update for the title via their Steam service this evening. What are the more significant changes? Well, Versus mode is now locked on Normal difficulty and also finding a dedicated server is “faster and more reliable” when you start a game from a lobby.
Valve has also added a new game on Steam; World in Conflict, the acclaimed 2007 RTS title from Massive Entertainment. The addition comes courtesy of Massive’s new owners, publisher Ubisoft. It’s still unknown if Ubisoft will be publishing the long awaited expansion pack for the game, Soviet Assault.
DO NOT use any type of metal spoon or bowl for mixing
DO NOT refrigerate
It is normal for the mixture to rise, bubble and ferment; “burp” the bag as needed

____ Day 8 – Mush bag
____ Day 9 – Mush bag
____ Day 10 – Follow instructions below…
Pour entire contents of bag into a non-metal bowl
Add 1 ½ cup flour, 1 ½ cup sugar, 1 ½ cup milk. Mix with non-metal spoon or whisk
Measure 1 cup of batter into 4 one-gallon Ziploc bags, Label with the date. Keep a starter bag for yourself and give the other three to friends, along with a copy of this recipe
Preheat oven 325 degrees Fahrenheit
Add these ingredients to the remaining batter
3 eggs
½ tsp Baking powder
1 cup oil
½ tsp Baking soda
2 tsp cinnamon
2 cup flour
1 cup sugar
1 pkg Vanilla pudding
½ cup milk
½ tsp Salt
½ tsp Vanilla
Grease two loaf pans
In a small bowl, mix 3 tbsp sugar, and 1 ½ tsp cinnamon. Dust greased pans with the mixture.
Pour the batter evenly into two pans and sprinkle the tops with the remaining cinnamon sugar mixture
Bake one Hour. Cool the bread until loosens evenly from the pan. Serve warm or cold.
If you keep a starter for yourself, you will be baking every 10 days. The bread is very good and makes a great gift. Only the Amish know how to create the starter, so if you give them all away , you’ll have to wait until someone gives one back.
The poor economic climate is hitting everywhere, even well established game developers like Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment. The Arizona based developer has been working for a few years now on Stargate Worlds, the Unreal Engine 3 powered MMO based on the long running sci-fi movie-TV franchise.
However, a web site posted up by an anonymous person claims that it has been three weeks since anyone at Cheyanne has been paid. Ten Ton Hammer has posted up a comment from a Cheyenne spokesperson who, while not admitting to the payroll problems, does say, “…the new economic realities are forcing us to seek out additional sources of funding and that’s what we’re doing.” The spokesperson added that they are continuing to develop Stargate Worlds and plan to launch a new round of closed beta testing in early 2009. Ten Ton Hammer’s story also mentioned word from anonymous sources that a number of Cheyenne team members have left the company but specific numbers were not mentioned.
Codemasters gave us a superb racing game earlier this year with GRID and since then we have been waiting to see if the publisher had plans to release any new content for the game. Today Codemasters announced that the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions now have an “8 Ball pack” of new downloadable content but don’t fret PC gamers; your day is coming.
Big Download contacted Codemasters’ PR team who told us that downloadable content for the PC port would be made available sometime “in the New Year.” There’s no word yet on if that content will contain today’s “8 Ball pack” which consists of eight new cars and two new multiplayer events. There’s also no word if there will be a charge for the PC downloads as there is for the console versions.
The folks at Flickr have released some good news today. Specifically, their mobile site at m.flickr.com has been improved to include, among other things, video support for the iPhone and iPod touch.
It seems to work by playing a Quicktime version of your clips, thus getting around the whole lack of flash support. The folks at Flickr note that the iPod touch and iPhone are the only mobile devices that can play the movies for now, but others will be added soon.
Other improvements to m.flickr.com include the option to comment on photos and add them to your collection of favorites. I found the site to be very fast indeed over WiFi and no slouch over EDGE, either. Those of you with later model iPhones (and iPod touches) will have to tell me how your experiences have been.
Thank you to Flickr and the Yahoo! Video Platform group. Now if only some others would follow suit (we’re looking at you, Hulu).
Things haven’t been going Midway’s way lately but today, according to Kotaku, the game publisher got some good news. A federal judge has ruled in Midway’s favor in a copyright case involving their 2004 action title Psi-Ops:The Mindgate Conspiracy. A screenwriter named William L. Crawford filed a lawsuit against Midway in 2007, claiming Midway had stolen elements of an screenplay of his, also named Psi-Ops.
Crawford said in his lawsuit that Midway may have gotten access to elements of his screenplay via web sites that were created to support his project. He also claims to have shopped the script around to companies at the 2001 E3 trade show. However a judge was unmoved, ruling that there was “minimal evidence supporting a reasonable possibility” that Midway had gained access to the screenplay.
While you’re geeking out with your techie friends building battle bots or pumpkin cannons, why not give your dog a little love at the same time?
TUAW reader Stephen Myers sent us a link about a fun little project he worked on. He wants to be able to check on his dog’s well-being and reward the dog with treats from anywhere he can use his iPhone. Stephen found out about ioBridge, a company that develops electronic monitoring and control modules that connect to any Ethernet network and can be controlled via an encrypted web front end.
Myers used an I/O module and servo smart board from ioBridge, a servo, an old CD spindle case, some cardboard and wood scraps, a large syringe plunger, and a webcam to build his device, and then used the ioBridge web interface to create a widget that controlled the device. No programming was required. The system generated javascript that was then embedded into a web page optimized for the iPhone screen, and now Myers can check up on Cooper, his dog, and give Cooper some treats.
Myers has many more details about the system in his blog entry, and he will be writing future posts about how he’s using ioBridge and X10 controllers to turn lights on and off in his home — from his iPhone.
We would but Activision apparently does not. So just to play the “fair and balanced” card, the publisher has officially told Videogamer.com that those media reports from both Newsweek and MTV Multiplayer were “speculative as far as we’re concerned”. Uh-huh.
The phrasing of their official statement doesn’t call the announcements false, just “speculative”. We think that Activision wasn’t prepared for news reporters coming into the Massive upfront event and were a little looser in revealing their future plans than they would have been had they known a bunch of media types had infiltrated. In any case, it would be a massive shock if Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was not in the works, was not being developed by Infinity Ward and wasn’t coming out in fall 2009.
