In preparation for the Fable 2 Knothole Island DLC’s release next Monday, Xbox.com has been updated with a listing of Fable 2‘s new achievements. All unlocked (of course) through the Knothole DLC. The three achievements tally up to an additional 100 Gamerscore and, for the most part, are targeted towards the story progression.

Side note: What’s up with Fable 2‘s use of helping or seeing “another Hero do so” to unlock achievements? A bait tactic to encourage co-op play?

  • The Collector (25GS) – Acquire all the mystery items in The Box of Secrets shop, or see another Hero do so.
  • The Meteorologist (50GS) - Bring all of Knothole Island’s weather problems under control, or help another Hero to do so.
  • The Bibliophile (25GS) – Find all the books detailing the history of Knothole Island, or help another Hero to do so.

[Thanks, ZEBRA NINER]

For whom does the cost-cutter’s bell toll? It tolls for Formula 1… and for the World Rally Championship. The FIA has announced that from 2010 the WRC will use Super 2000-spec cars, instead of the current championship’s Group N racers. As with the FIA’s moves in F1 to standardize components in order to help teams save money, the S2000 cars all have third-party-supplied gearboxes and drivetrains, use 2.0-liter engines with 8,500 rpm rev limits, and are prohibited from being excessively modified (if you have some time, check out the FIA-mandated S2000 specs), among other things. Should manufacturers wish to sell their S2000 cars to privateer teams they can charge no more than €168,000. Five time WRC champion Sebastien Loeb has spoken out against an S2000 WRC, saying he won’t be interested in rallying if the 2010 regs actually take effect. The Group N cars that drivers like Loeb currently pilot will be relegated to the P-WRC come 2010. We’ll find out then if Sebastien Loeb goes with them.

You’re bound to face a few hiccups when you’re a no-name brand trying to source an Android handset from a no-name ODM buried deep inside a Shenzen industrial park, and it seems Kogan’s going through those growing pains right about now. The Australian company still says the Agora and Agora Pro will ship before the end of January (barely), but it looks like they’re down to the wire with tweaks to the phone’s design. For starters, the soft keys are gone — not much use for those in Android anyway, last we checked — replaced with a decidedly WinMo-esque set of home and back keys; the keyboard’s been redesigned, too, and the d-pad is looking more usable than it had been before. For the Agora’s price point, we’re still sold on this thing — but only if we can get something more than a printout of a pretty render delivered to our doorstep.

[Thanks, Big Mike]

Peggle Extreme now free on Steam

If you’ve been anxious to take a stab at the eighth-best game that came out last year, but you don’t want to pay any money for said stab, and you also don’t want to play it unless it incorporates elements from various Valve franchises, then you’re outrageously picky. Fortunately, Valve has acquiesced to your bizarre list of demands — Peggle Extreme, the miniature version of PopCap’s hit title which includes levels based on Half Life 2, Portal and Team Fortress 2, is now free to download on Steam.

Previously only available in the PC version of The Orange Box (or from a demo offered to NVIDIA customers), this Plinko-tastic title offers ten Valve-themed levels, five “master challenges”, a multiplayer “duel mode”, and a Unicorn with a headcrab impaled upon its domepiece. If that doesn’t sell you, we’re not sure what will.

Spy Shots: Saab 9-4

If you were to order a black Saab 9-4, as of now you can almost see what your CUV will look like. If things go as originally planned, it will go into production in about a year. Up front is pure Saab, the rear hatch couldn’t say SportCombi more forcefully, and the sloping shoulder line and window profile are 9-5. It’s supposed to go into production in about a year, but hopefully we’ll get to see it in Detroit in a few weeks since who knows where things will be a year from now.

Last night we mentioned that Valve has put Team Fortress 2 on sale for this weekend only. Now the company has announced, via its weekly Steam news update (it pops up when you sign onto Steam) that they have made one of their games available for download free of charge…permanently.

That game is Peggle Extreme, a version of Popcap Games‘ addictive casual arcade game that has art and sound themes from Valve’s Orange Box game collection. Last year the game was a free bonus for anyone who bought The Orange Box but now the former $9.99 game is free to any Steam user. Peggle Extreme has 10 levels, five Master Challenges and duel mode which you can play with either a friend or a computer opponent.

Apple t-shirt quilt available on eBay

I don’t know how comfy a quilt made out of t-shirts would be, but maybe the fact that they’re all Apple t-shirts will help. That’s exactly what this quilt is made out of — it’s up over on eBay right now, and while the price is only around $36 at the time of this writing, it’s probably gone up since then. There are about 20 t-shirts in the quilt total, and they look like they range from the late ’90s (there’s a bondi blue iMac on there, I believe) up to the Tiger release (at least those are all the ones I recognize). And they do seem like official store t-shirts, which means whoever made the quilt probably is or knows an Apple employee.

If you can get over the fact that someone probably once wore your quilt, it might be a nice Apple-themed bedspread to grab. I’ve been looking for a good quilt lately, and while this is a little too patched together for my interests, maybe Apple is missing something here. What would an Ive-designed quilt end up looking like?

Unreleased Helio slider surfaces

Described to us once by those in the know as “a project that would’ve been,” this Helio-badged, Samsung-built, multimedia-happy slider just surfaced on the Heliocity forums. Samsung shipped tweaked versions of this handset (based on the Samsung F400) with B&O and Armani branding, but there’s no telling if “Helio by Virgin” still has plans to bring this to market. More shots after the break.

Because they’re aware your interest in Mercenaries 2: World in Flames has probably dwindled, EA and Pandemic Studios are set to release a new bundle of Blow It Up Again content pack joy. It’s destructive DLC.

This expansion content is scheduled for release on Tuesday, December 16th and will be 100% FREE throughout the rest of the year. Included will be four additional game modes as well as a few “patriotic characters” to wreak havoc with. Per the Blow It Up Again teaser trailer, we’re moderately impressed, because it looks so darn boom-riffic!

Click the image above to see video of MINI’s 3D Cooper Convertible

MINI is proving to be somewhat recession-proof, with 43% and 56% increases over the past two dreadful sales months. The marque is also keeping up its cred as a clever marketeer, with a new print campaign that can make a 3D MINI appear on your computer screen. The specially-designed MINI ad is able to interact with your webcam using technology called Augmented Reality. Simply log onto the URL printed on the ad, follow the instructions (in German), and voila! You have a realistic 3D model of the new MINI Convertible. To turn the 3D model or zoom it in or out, simply move the actual ad in front of your webcam. It takes a bit of processing power, so it helps to have a relatively modern computer. Follow the jump to view video of the interactive ad, and if you want to try it for yourself, print one out and surf to the special website. Thanks for the tip, Cory!
