It seems like Spike Video Game Award judges and Time magazine now have something in common. The Spike VGA Game of the Year was just announced and it was … wait for it … drumroll please … more drumroll, please … that’s better … Grand Theft Auto IV. The announcement was preceded by the latest Brutal Legend trailer, so we almost missed it basking in the awesomeness of Tim freaking Schafer. Congratulations to Rockstar.

Curious which games won - and, by proxy, which ones lost - in the rest of the categories? Find the full list of winners after the break.

Forget reading! Here’s our video stream.

We literally don’t know what channel Spike is.

It’s not the most noble start to our annual VGA liveblog, but it’s the best we’ve got. We hope you’ll hang in there with us as we detail all the … well, whatever it is. Our man Kevin Kelly is inside, and he’ll be giving us the dog’s eye view.

And away we go!

Backstage at the VGAs, GTTV’s Geoff Keighley just revealed that Pearl Jam’s Ten album will be releasing to Rock Band next March. No, we didn’t stutter, Pearl Jam is coming to Rock Band! We suspect all eleven tracks will be included in the album release, but highly doubt any of the bonus material will make the cut. Pearl Jam headed to Rock Band, you know you love it.

Moments ago, on the Spike VGA stage, Gears‘ lovable Augustus Cole announced the new Gears of War 2 Combustible Map Pack downloadable content. And, just as was rumored, it’ll be releasing in a few hours, at 3AM eastern on Monday, December 15th.

The Combustible Map Pack will include three new multiplayer maps. “Flood” is the imulsion map that was leaked weeks back and will feature imulsion as an environmental hazard. “Gold Rush” will also be included, a map that was released as part of Gears PC. The third map, “Fuel Station” looks to have been inspired by Gears favorite Fuel Depot, but is not a straight remake. More details still to come (including pretty screenshots) and, per a reliable source, we’ve been informed the Combustible DLC will set you back a hefty 800 Microsoft points.

We knew it was coming, but Amazon is now listing Kodak’s Flickr-compatible OLED 7.6-inch photo frame as in stock and shipping for $999.95. They say a picture is worth a thousand words — here, that word is “dollar.”

If Gears of War goes down to a Bethesda game again, Cliff Bleszinski’s getting schoolyard. Live at the VGA red carpet, he just told us “Well, last time we lost Game of the Year to Oblivion and this year we might lose to Fallout 3. So I slit the tires on [exec. producer] Todd Howard’s car.”

With his considerable delts/pecs/biceps, we’d think Cliffy B. Young Cliff could just rip those tires asunder. We’re a little disappointed.

This won’t come as a surprise, but we’re betting it’ll do your spirits well. Will Wright just told us, “I’m working on a big new project that I’m very excited about, but I don’t want to talk about it yet because if it takes three years to come out I don’t want people saying ‘Wow, he’s been talking about that for a loooong time.’”

Jeez Will, you sound like a guy who’s had a little (read: a decade) of experience with that.

PlayStation Home already hacked?

Posted by Ross Miller

Well, that was fast. A poster by the name of StreetskaterFU has outlined what he claims is a method of hacking into PlayStation Home’s servers for download, uploading and deleting files. We’re not able to verify his directions, but if true it would be a potentially calamitous oversight on Sony’s part. Additionally, a PS3hax forum poster claims to have used StreeskaterFU’s method and changed the movie posters and trailers (looks like it only affects what he sees locally; video embedded after the break). We haven’t seen any signs of hacker malfeasance during our time with Home, but let us know if your virtual moviegoing experience has been drastically altered.

With all the excitement surrounding tonight’s Spike TV Video Game Awards, we know you’ll be a good fanboy and watch the show either on TV or via the award show’s live stream. And instead of watching all by your lonesome, we recommend jumping over to Major Nelson’s site and joining the live chat event.

The VGA live chat (accessible here or through your favorite IRC client) will promptly kick off at 9:00PM eastern over on MajorNelson.com. You’ll be among your community peers which means you can discuss, speculate and express your fanboyism while watching the VGA news unfold. We’ll be hanging out in the chat session and we’ve also learned that Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb will be stopping by sometime during the VGA airing. It’s socialization, it’s awards, and it’s just fun.
