Boredom much? Well wasn’t planning on posting anything else today… but I’m just kinda sitting around for today waiting until Tricker Treatin’ time later tonight. I’m currently in exile (Connor has taken over my computer to watch Lightning McQueen, so I’ve gone into the laundry room to do a little bit o’ nothin’ on my linux serve). It’s weird, I can manage a linux box from command line on my computer no problems at all… but here at the actual computer it feels so restrictive, like I can’t get nothin’ done! Guess it woulda helped me to have logged in as Root… but I’m not really expecting to get much work done today, more or less just looking to play around online and keep mahself entertained until it is time to take Connor out and have some trick or treat fun times. Finally found somewhere to take him… I love all the completely unhelpful advice that you get from people without children at times like these… Don’t get me wrong, when Connor is older I’ll gladly take him around in the car to different neighborhoods to get mondo candy loads… but until he can get in and out of the car by himself, at least do his own seatbelt… yeah, not so much.

Lazy Sundays

I must be genetically programmed for lazy Sundays or something… The last 2 Sundays of this challenge (and the only Sundays of this challenge) I’ve not wanted to do anything. Nothing intentional about it, it’s like Sunday hits and 1,000% of my energy is zapped. It’s all good, I still got my five minutes of work done :-P Wrote an entry here, and a short one for Archmaille.com so that’s enough to fulfill the mission. Feeling better today, but not sure what to write about… Finally took myself completely off the pain meds, just using a couple Ibuprofen… we’ll see how long that lasts though since I’m feeling very swollen and sore right now. Also see how I feel later today since it is halloween, and I really only slept a couple of hours last night!

Animating the Bible

Well, I know I’ve not actually joined in on helping to animate the Bible yet. Haven’t had the chance to join the animation team yet, but the work that I’ve been able to do on the site is good! I definitely think it’ll help to bring everyone together in a more productive working manor. I’ve been off the project for a few weeks as my head healed, but yesterday I finally got back to working on it. Even using CakePHP and their bake function it’s a LOT of work to do… but I think I can get through it. I’ve not even finished baking all the models yet… which of course is the long part. Once I do that I can just run the “Bake All” command for controllers and views. Then its off to changing the code for each page, deleting unnecessary pages, and what not until I’m blue in the face :-P It’s one of those things I wish I had someone else to work on those parts with me, but I don’t think it’ll kill me to do it. I have made some pretty complex websites before, and it always surprises me when I’m done, I don’t think this will be any different. I think by the time that I’m finally done it will be something to marvel at, and not because I’m so awesome at coding or anything, but because of what skills and talents God brings to the table at just the right time. Still kinda trying to get myself into the mindset of getting back on the coding horse after such a long time of not working on it with the wisdom teeth extraction… kinda set me back on everything. Well, it’s about time that I head out and pick up the wife from work, then back home for church, and the usual daddy things after that while trying to get some coding & blogging done. Sounds like a fun day to me :-D

Go forth and sin no more!

James 4:13-17 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.” Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that.” But as it is, you boast in your arrogance; all such boasting is evil. Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin.

If you know what God wants you to do with your life and you are not working towards it, that is sin. Pretty intense huh? Every once in a while we need little reminders of such powerfully irritating words. Even for the most devout Christians these words will convict you to your soul. Actually I’d say these are some of those words that shake a devout follower of Christ to the core, but might leave the self righteous arrogant type untouched. I understand not really knowing where you are going, or what God has planned for your life. God is a mystery, for us to discover, and that is okay, that’s how it should be! Where the problem lies is when we stop attempting to discover God… when we think we’ve got him figured out and keep going one direction without questioning it. What we need to do with our lives is spend each day, every morning wake up and say “God, if it is in your plans, this is what I am going to do… if not, guide me to where you wish me to go.” This is something that I need to work on and learn to do better. I think if we’re honest with ourselves all of us could use a little learning/practice in this area ;-)

My wife recently broke her eyeglasses, well let me rephrase that, our two year old son broke her eyeglasses. Obviously this has prompted her to start looking for a new pair of eyeglasses. The whole process is a pain, and can be very expensive. So after a little while of wasting some time looking for an optometrist locally, and trying to do a little bargain shopping for the best prices around we finally decided to check out the net. After a few quick searches online we found quality eyeglasses at amazing prices! When we first found ZenniOptical.com we couldn’t believe our eyes, it seemed too good to be true. After looking around for reviews all we could find was the highest praise, and from some very big names! The prices that Zenni Optical has on their eyeglasses is low enough that you will feel like you are paying wholesale, but the quality control is good enough that you’ll think you just bought a high end pair of designer frames! We actually picked up two pairs of eyeglasses for her, we figured the price we were paying they had to be cheap, so we got a second pair as backup… even then we paid less than we would have at a local store. And I don’t think that we’ll be needing the backup pair any time soon. My wife would say differently though since we got a couple of different styles I’m sure she will be wearing both pairs we got at different times to show off the fashionable frames we picked up from Zenni Optical.

Desk Mods

I’ve been playing my racing games a little bit more than I had been recently. Partially due to the completion of my mods to the steering wheel. Which went well, except I need some different fans for it :-P Got one of my Delta TFB1212GHE fans hooked up to it because it is what I had lying around at the time. Ironically enough it’s actually to powerful, the wind and vibration mess with the sensors so it still cuts out some times. But it doesn’t cut out from heat. And if I move to a smaller quieter fan I don’t think it will start cutting out from heat either, so that’s good. Anyways, back to the desk… all the moving around has perpetuated a problem I had before with my pen tablet and having to reorganize my desk every time I want to switch tasks. So I’m working on a modification that will give me a drawer about an inch and a half lower (for ergonomics) than the current table top, and would give me space for my pen tablet, and maybe a mouse. I still want to make a hybrid standing/sitting desk at some point to help keep me moving and changing positions throughout the day at some point… but for now this one will be good :-P

Well I finally got a couple more offers on P3! Which is good, it’s like $20 which does help me feel a little better about the work that I’ve been up to :-P It works out especially well that the offers are for here, and archmaille (the two places I’ve been trying to keep updated). So a couple of posts on them that I’m getting paid well to write will be a very good thing :-D

Still to be discovered is how to make my blogs continually profitable, and maybe get some extra PR so that my current income streams pick back up ;-)

Turn it to gold!

Well, keeping up with blogging has been okay, at least I’ve done it thus far… but I’d really like to find a way to turn it profitable! I guess now is a great time to experiment with different blog article types, ads, multiple blogs, etc. Most of that is going to have to wait until I get home from taking Rose to work, but you know how it goes. Maybe I could/should promote some yourvacuumguy.com pages ;-) a good amount of vacuum cleaner reviews posts might boost the relevance of both sites, and eventually earn me a few bucks! Maybe if I keep this up through December, and into January when people start pulling down their ads I might move to the top naturally… maybe I’m starting all of this at an extremely competitive time and shouldn’t worry so much about the outcomes till about this time next year ;-)

Time to work

And now it is time to get to work. I’ve got to get all my blog posts written, 3 more after this one! Wow kinda seems like a lot… but oh well, the number of words between the 3 isn’t so bad. After I finish all of those entries I’ll start looking at theBibleAnimated stuff again and see where I need to go next to begin, or rather get back to coding. I think my pain levels are finally at a manageable enough level that I should be able to do all my normal duties and still have some time left for coding. I’m not feeling very motivated today, but attempting to push beyond that and just get the things done that need to be done. I guess you could say that is what this whole exercise is about, getting past those mental blocks and moving forward even when there isn’t someone pushing you to keep working… and there is no guarantee of a paycheck… you know, the fun parts of working from home :-P

It’s too bad I dislike the vacuum cleaner stuff so much because there seems to be a lot of money in it! I just wish I could figure out a way to get paid on the work that I’ve already done for the site… I mean I keep getting offers from people to sell me vacuum cleaner sites, I see how much people are paying for clicks, I see how much people are paying for vacuum cleaners… I’m a little bit down today though, because the one sale I did get, got returned! So the little bit of money I did scrape together today is now gone… bah! I know, this blogging task is not to see how much money you can make, its to see if you can keep going on this stuff… but stuff like that is a big discouraging ya know?

Mmmm… Cheesy taters!

Well there’s not much else to write about right now… or well more or less I’m not in much of a mood to do so. Luckily for my blog this isn’t about moods, but rather about persistence. I think I’m gonna take a nap after this, but wanted to get something up before I did ;-) So I’m writing about my cheesy potatoes! I’ll probably post the recipe later today on bo-lings.info I think I’ll make that my food and recipe blog… seems fitting right? Anyways, got some potatoes the other day from Costco for making cheesy mashed potatoes, because when we were there they had a sample of some that was awesome! So I kinda did my own rendition, but for the price of one of their tubs I made 4 times as much :-D And I had fun making it… very filling should last several days and keep the family fed well.
