A new job for epic wins!
So I FINALLY got the call back from LifeTouch! Not that I was ever really not expecting it… but that helps to give a little bit of a new direction for things in the coming months. Doesn’t change anything with my copper jewelry campaign for Archmaille Designs, and it really doesn’t change much [...]

Yet to be impressed
Okay… I am not quite sure where or what the intro video for WarRock was taken place, but the graphics of the game were worse than the original Counter Strike… it was almost like playing a FPS with the original doom or something. I was happy for a minute when I could adjust settings! [...]

Car Insurance on the Cheap
There’s a difference between cheap car insurance, and car insurance for cheap. War Rock
Call me pathetic but I’ve never played War Rock before! Recently I’ve heard about it twice though, once from a comment on a Combat Arms Aimbot post, and the other time in game in Combat Arms. Not that I’ve not heard of the infamous WarRock before, I’ve just never bothered with finding out [...]

haha, just upgraded to the new Wordpress 2.7 and there’s a lot about the layout that I love, things that are back to how they used to be (such as categories, and tags on the right hand side).  Of course I wait to make the switch until I am getting back into the blog realm [...]

Nissan recalls nearly 250,000 Xterras, Pathfinders and Frontiers

Nissan is recalling 242,720 model years 2005-2009 Xterras, Pathfinders, and Frontiers for faulty Crash Zone Sensors (front) that may prevent front airbags from deploying in an accident. The recall is Nissan's second airbag sensor-related issue in the past three months. The last recall involved passenger cars including the Altima. This particular recall mainly effects vehicles sold in the northern half of the U.S. where heavy salt usage during winter months can corrode the crash sensor. The corrosion can then cause sensor interruption, which will cause the air bag warning light to illuminate.

To fix the problem, Nissan will replace the faulty sensors with an improved sensor. Owners of 2005-2009 Xterras, Pathfinders and Frontiers that live outside of the States where the recall is in effect will receive a 10-year extended warranty on the Crash Zone Sensors. Nissan hasn't yet set a timetable for the recall, but if your air bag warning illuminates, we'd suggest heading to your neighborhood Nissan dealer right away to get it fixed. Hit the jump to see if you live in one of the states affected by the recall. Thanks for the tip, Owen!

Microsoft exec predicts Sony will be forced to cut PS3 prices
After a couple weeks in which the 360 posted better sales numbers than the PS3 and it was revealed that Sony inadvertently funded Microsoft's next-gen development efforts, you'd think Microsoft execs would be getting a little cocky, but it sounds instead like they're expecting a renewed offensive from Sony based on price. That's direct from the 360's director of product management Aaron Greenberg, who told Edge that MS "absolutely expects" a PS3 price cut in the next few months, and that the team is "frankly surprised it's taken this long." Of course, we've been hearing tons of PS3 pricing speculation from all corners lately with no change to that $399 MSRP, so we'll see how it goes.

The game is a Games for Windows Live title so expect things like achievements and other features to be supported. The game is due out sometime in 2009 but no specific release date has been announced.

iPhone adventure ?1112? potentially WiiWare-bound

According to a post by its developer on NeoGAF, the multi-touch intensive iPhone/iPod Touch adventure, 1112, may be headed to WiiWare. Alexandre Leboucher states that a friend working at "a small Wii/DS game company" approached him about bringing the game to Wii, and Leboucher is asking for feedback on an appropriate Wii Points value (part one of the episodic series is $7.99 on the iTunes App Store).

Leboucher says he feels the game is technologically well-suited for Wii, but has concerns about WiiWare's 42 megabyte limit; the game's first episode on iPhone is 128MB.

Retrospect, portable storage headline Iomega booth

Iomega and EMC continue to offer plenty of backup and storage options for home and small businesses, including a new version of Retrospect that improves the interface and performance for the first time in years.

Retrospect 8.0 for Mac, in addition to the customizable UI, includes improved backup-to-disk features, tape library management, and email reporting. Its revamped backup engine can perform eight simultaneous disk actions (like copy, backup, and restore), bringing it closer to parity with the Windows version of the tool.

A public beta of Retrospect 8.0 is available now from EMC's website, which EMC recommends not be used in mission-critical environments. The final version is expected to ship before the end of March; pricing starts at $129.

Also available from Iomega (an EMC company) are two storage products for Mac users: Home Media Network Hard Drive, and the eGo Helium for MacBook Air users. The Home Media Network Hard Drive works with iTunes to create a networked repository for music and movies, along with a print server for USB printers. It's available in 500GB and 1TB capacities, and retails for $160 and $230, respectively.

The eGo Helium is designed with the MacBook Air in mind, and features a small, lightweight profile. With a single USB connection for power and data, Helium works with the Air's single (overpowered) USB port. The eGo Helium is 320GB and priced at $150.

Iomega is located at Macworld in the North hall, at booth 4015.

Full disclosure: I previously worked with Iomega for five years starting in 2002, designing their retail packaging.

NewerTech?s Voyager Q converts SATA HDDs into hot-swappable external drives

Man, talk about a hasty refresh cycle. NewerTech just unleashed its original Voyager in early December, and barely a month later we're being treated to the Voyager Q. Delivered at Macworld today, the quad interface device (USB 2.0, eSATA, FireWire 400 and FireWire 800) sports a sleek, glossy exterior, hinged flaps to cover the gaps when your internal HDDs are being used internally and support for hot-swapping, too. Both 2.5- and 3.5-inch SATA I / II drives are supported, and yes, both OS X and Windows platforms are fully supported. If you've finally lost the inability to avoid procuring one of these type units, you can get the Voyager Q on its way to you this moment for $99.95.

VTech?s new DECT 6.0 telephones are too swank for grandma

VTech's not stopping with just a WiFi radio here at CES -- oh no, it's also introducing a snazzy new DECT line of telephones. Starting with the flagship LS6245, we've got a slim, stylish handset that packs both DECT 6.0 technology and Bluetooth, enabling one person to be on the main handset while a BT-enabled phone taps in as well. The entire lineup features touch sensitive buttons, caller ID, speakerphone, selectable ring tones and a 50-name / number phonebook directory, with the V.Style LS6215 even offering touch tech in the base unit. Each member of the '09 line is priced under $100, and the whole crew should be available for budding seniors in the first half of '09.

Sometimes, we wish two posts on different topics would somehow magically merge together. The story of Hertz winning out against Zipcar for carsharing at the Ohio State University would be so much cooler if one of the cars you could rent by the hour is the Lotus-developed biofueled Antarctic speeder you can see on the left up there. I mean, who wouldn't want to go cruising over a frozen Ohio lake in that thing, and for nine bucks an hour, too? As for two things that should just not go together, check out this coal-powered Caddy. Yikes.

Elgato refreshes its EyeTV Hybrid tuner
Elgato EyeTV Hybrid USB tuner
It's been almost a year since Elgato refreshed its EyeTV Hybrid tuner, and while the addition of better reception and a FM radio tuner aren't earth-shattering, it's awfully hard to complain about how much the company has crammed into the Cear-QAM 1080i-tuning USB stick aimed at Mac users. The $150 dongle includes a year-long subscription to TV Guide for your scheduling convenience, but you'll have to fork over $20 per year for the service after that. There will be a new 3.1 version of EyeTV available later this month, but you can pick up the fresh hardware right now.

Site sponsored by the generous donations from our Sterling Silver Jewelry sister site. Please support them for supporting us! As it turns out I've spent a lot of time and energy in my jewelry business. That means that things around here have been lacking tremendously and I'm sorry for that! Things like Sterling Silver Jewelry have always been a little more important to me than little ventures like this. Maybe it's because I spent so much time handcrafting all of my own jewelry from scratch. That is I take all my jewelry and hand make the rings, and assemble them into bracelets, necklaces, and earrings to become complete Handmade sterling silver jewelry pieces that you see on my Archmaille Designs website. If I had more jewelry sales then things would be easier online for me to focus on this here site, but handmade jewelry sales are slim so I've still got a LOT of jewelry work to do before things are good to go, so to speak. Thanks for understanding that my handmade silver jewelry business is rather important and I will do what I can when I can for this one, but until then sterling silver jewelry remains the focus for me.
