Samsung shows off MBP200 pico projector
Tiny projectors seem to be popping up everywhere, filling press releases with amazing promise. However, it's still not too often that you actually get to see the things in action, so we were glad to see Samsung displaying not one but two prototypes of their upcoming MBP200 pico projector running for all to see. The Digital Experience room was rather well lit, not ideal conditions for a wee projector, but it threw a respectably bright image on a screen about three feet away, shown above. Not much bigger than a cell phone, the MBP200 sports an integrated 480 x 320 projector plus a 2.2-inch, 320 x 240 LCD for when you feel like being a little more private. It plays videos, music, and even office productivity files directly from a microSD slot, meaning, in theory, you can do your entire presentation with one device. It all sounds and looks fantastic, the only thing missing being some semblance of an anticipated price or release date more specific than "this year."Continue reading Samsung shows off MBP200 pico projector Filed under: Cellphones, CES, Displays, Portable Video Samsung shows off MBP200 pico projector originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 08 Jan 2009 07:01:00 EST. TUAW First Look: Keynote ?09
Filed under: Macworld, iLife, Features Call me biased or unfortunate, but I detest slide presentations. Ugh, even typing that gave me the heeby-jeebies. I've sat through entirely too many demos during which some absolute bore read to me as if we were in preschool circle time. Not to mention the blue, marbleized buttons and millions of bullet points. Oh, the bullet points.
When Keynote was introduced in January of 2003, my initial feelings were mixed. On one hand, Apple is a stylish company that makes thoughful, easy to use software. On the other hand, this was presentation software. How good could it be? The answer is "pretty darn good," and even better now with the latest version of Keynote.
When you first launch one of the iWork applications, you're greeted with an invitation to try or buy the software. It's much more attractive in '09 than the '08 version of the same splash screen, and that's indicative of nearly every aspect of Keynote '09: It's very beautiful.

RCA dishes new 16GB SL5016 Lyra Slider MP3 player, we yawn
Really, RCA? You come all the way to Vegas to unload a slightly more capacious version of your already unexciting Lyra Slider MP3 player? As of today, consumers waiting on pins and needles for this here DAP to arrive with 16GB of memory built-in can thank their lucky stars, as the SL5016 offers just that. 'Course, we have no idea why you'd pay $119.99 for it, but maybe the bundled easyRip software is some amazing value-add that we just can't comprehend.Continue reading RCA dishes new 16GB SL5016 Lyra Slider MP3 player, we yawn Filed under: CES, Portable Audio, Portable Video RCA dishes new 16GB SL5016 Lyra Slider MP3 player, we yawn originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 08 Jan 2009 06:32:00 EST. AutoblogGreen for 01.08.09
Filed under: Hybrids/Alternative, Green
Psst, wanna see some vaporware? Or at least ideas for vehicles that have a long way to go before they move from rendering to the real world? Well, then we've got the posts for you. Try on the RORMaxx Formula AE or the Lampo electric roadster for size. Sadly, the Aptera also joins the ranks of the delayed, but there might be good news in a surprise announcement from Ford in Detroit. Two words: Focus EV.

Panasonic launches new line of of camcorders at CES 2009
We already caught wind of a few new camcorders from Panasonic today, but now the whole crew is official. We've got too many to call 'em out, but here's a few highlights. First off, the SDR-S26 packs a mighty ridiculous 70x optical zoom. The partnering SDR-H80 and SDR-H90 also include optical image stabilization and varying amounts of internal storage, but truthfully, these really aren't worth swooning over. The half dozen Full HD models, however, are definitely worth peeking. The HDC-HS300, HDC-TM300 and HDC-HS250 all feature the outfit's 3MOS system, but unfortunately, none of these are particularly affordable. If you don't believe us, have a look at the links below.

Dell?s XPS 1340 and 1640 get official, latter gets reviewed
The new XPS 1340 and 1640 laptops just appeared yesterday, and now (a mere day late) have been given the blessing of officialdom from Dell. Of course, we already knew all there was to know about them when it comes to specs, so rather more interesting is the first review of the bigger of the two, also called the XPS 16. The 2.4GHz machine scored high marks both when it comes to aesthetics and overall performance, but the thing got a little too hot for comfort, costs a good bit more than the competition, and those glossy screens are always controversial. Overall it sounds like a nice machine if you have the dough -- and don't mind a little glare.

ezGear?s You Rock Guitar packs multi-touch and ultimate babe magnet
If ezGear's last guitar wasn't quite complex enough for you, check out it's latest product -- the You Rock Guitar. Compatible with both Guitar Hero 2 and Rock Band: World Tour for Wii, and your PC or Mac, the You Rock has a full multi-touch fretboard which simulates a "real" guitar with six strings instead of five buttons. You can hook this bad boy up with a standard .25-inch connection, or plug in your iPod or MP3 player through the mini-stereo jack to rock out to your own private collection of Metallica. The folks over at ezGear promise a SDK for even further expandability by Spring, and expect the $150 device to be available in either Q2 or Q3.Filed under: Gaming, Peripherals ezGear's You Rock Guitar packs multi-touch and ultimate babe magnet originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 08 Jan 2009 04:41:00 EST. Motorola SURF A3100 video (and pictorial) hands-on
Like the Curve 8900, it turns out that Motorola's SURF is a device that kinda needs to be seen in the flesh to be fully appreciated. In light of TouchFLO and its endless competitors, the skin Moto's developed for this thing -- while tasteful and seemingly finger-friendly -- really isn't anything to get terribly excited about, but it does an adequate job of making the superficial surface of Windows Mobile reasonably finger-friendly. The screen feels great, and yeah, the SURF includes a stylus -- but hey, what WinMo phone doesn't? Ultimately, we think it's going to be a totally serviceable alternative to, say, a Touch Diamond -- only problem is that the Touch Diamond is like 8 months old. If Moto had launched this running Android instead of WinMo, on the other hand, it would've been the runaway hit of the show. Follow the break for a super-quick video tour of the UI!

GameTap Thursday: On the GRID
GameTap drives in its first update of the new year with the addition of GRID. Fans of Codemaster's DiRT might find it worth their time to check out the high-speed arcade style races found in GRID.
- GRID (Windows) - There's something magical about playing this game while sitting in a cardboard box with the top open. We also recommend turning off the TV sound and making your own car noises.
- Magic Academy (Windows) - It's a hidden object game. The digital version of a Where's Waldo book.
This week, GameTap adds Just Cause to the free games list. Why? You know, just 'cause. Ouch! We sprained a finger forcing that joke through. Check out the full gratis list after the break.Continue reading GameTap Thursday: On the GRID GameTap Thursday: On the GRID originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 08 Jan 2009 03:00:00 EST. Doesn?t change anything with my copper jewelry campaign for Archmaille Designs, and it really doesn?t change much of the [...]
