A new job for epic wins!
So I FINALLY got the call back from LifeTouch! Not that I was ever really not expecting it… but that helps to give a little bit of a new direction for things in the coming months. Doesn’t change anything with my copper jewelry campaign for Archmaille Designs, and it really doesn’t change much [...]

Do you have troubles sleeping at night? Many people all around the world suffer from insomnia or other sleeping disorders, that may be more serious. If you’re like me and wake up a lot of times with a sore back, or hip pains it’s probably time for a new mattress. Luckily I [...]

Yet to be impressed
Okay… I am not quite sure where or what the intro video for WarRock was taken place, but the graphics of the game were worse than the original Counter Strike… it was almost like playing a FPS with the original doom or something. I was happy for a minute when I could adjust settings! [...]

Car Insurance on the Cheap
There’s a difference between cheap car insurance, and car insurance for cheap. Trust me, I’ve recently had to go through a fiasco with car insurance that… well wasn’t the most fun of experiences lets just say! If you want car or hgv insurance insurance that doesn’t cost you a fortune you’ve generally got [...]

War Rock
Call me pathetic but I’ve never played War Rock before! Recently I’ve heard about it twice though, once from a comment on a Combat Arms Aimbot post, and the other time in game in Combat Arms. Not that I’ve not heard of the infamous WarRock before, I’ve just never bothered with finding out [...]

Wow should of done this a while ago?
haha, just upgraded to the new Wordpress 2.7 and there’s a lot about the layout that I love, things that are back to how they used to be (such as categories, and tags on the right hand side).  Of course I wait to make the switch until I am getting back into the blog realm [...]

BusyCal brings together calendars and syncing

I'm quite the fan of BusyMac Software's very excellent BusySync application for Mac OS X. It's always been a great (and ridiculously easily ) way to share calendars over your local network using the Mac's built-in zero-config Bonjour technology.

Today at Macworld Expo, the company has announced that an all-new application, BusyCal, is coming later in the year. The application, which is marketed as iCal Pro, promises 'the beauty and simplicity of iCal with the power of BusySync's ... calendar sharing and syncing technology'.

On top of all the regular calendaring that you'd expect, the application will ship with:
  • Bonjour, iPhone & Google Syncing
  • Multi-user editing
  • Calendar permissions and security
  • Offline editing
  • Graphics, icons, themes and sticky notes
  • Weather
  • Rich text
The application, when it ships, will require Mac OS X Leopard and cost $40 per computer. If you already own BusySync, or purchase it before BusyCal ships ($25), you can upgrade to BusyCal for $10.

Spy Shots: New Porsche 911 GT3 RS

With the coupe, cabrio, targa and turbo variants of the latest Porsche 911 already out on the road, Zuffenhausen is preparing similar updates for its flyweight road rocket, the GT3 RS. Test mules have been spotted roaming the French alps, which in this season would probably be the last place we'd want to drive a rear-engined, rear-wheel-drive track car. But then we're not zany German engineers, now are we?

We can expect that the latest 911 GT3 RS will receive the same updates as its brethren (including the Turbo's LED light strips up front) and be updated with the retro decal stripe and badge graphic down the quarter panel, plus colored wheels, contrasting wing-mirror housings, a big rear wing and an interior roll cage. A carbon fiber rear wing and hood plus a plastic rear window will help keep the weight down versus the conventional 911 Carrera, which should help the new RS hustle to 60 in a scant 4.2 seconds.

EA expands Nintendo focus, announces TWO MySims games for Wii/DS

Things aren't going so well in the world of EA. Disappointing sales of games like Mirror's Edge and Dead Space have forced the company to restructure, letting go 10% of its workforce. However, we see newfound hope for the company's bottom-line with their latest Nintendo-focused efforts. EA is planning on expanding the MySims franchise with two new games that truly broaden what's possible in gaming.

MySims Party promises to turn any gathering into an "instant party" by offering -- wait for it -- a variety of mini-games to play with. Shake the Wii Remote to partake in 50 mini games, ranging from snowboarding to dancing. The DS version will feature 40 stylus-powered mini games. 2K Games also created a similarly innovative title, which sold over a million copies.

In addition to the wildly-innovative MySims Party, EA has another sure-fire hit on their hands. Nintendo fans will absolutely adore MySims Racing. We don't want to spoil the game's unique offering, so we placed that trailer after the break.

Independent Games Festival 2009 finalists announced

It's perhaps the highest profile contest for indie game developers and today the Independent Games Festival announced the finalists for the 2009 edition in several catagories. The games were chosen out of 226 entries this year with the finalists picked by a number of game developers and journalists.

Winning one or more of the awards in the past has lead to bigger things for the games and their creators. Last year's winner of the Seumas McNally Grand Prize (worth $20,000) was Crayon Physics which, ironically, is due to release its commercial version for the PC later today. Hit indie games World of Goo and Audiosurf also won IGF awards last year before being released to great acclaim and sales.

The winners of the 2009 IGF will be announced on March 25 during the Game Developers Conference in San Fransisco. Check out the nominees after the jump:

Level-5: White Knight Chronicles riding into North America

Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino has confirmed that the PS3's White Knight Chronicles is coming to North America, though no release window has been announced. This should come as good news to JRPG fans, especially those who like having "Chronicles" in their titles.

In an interview with GameTrailers, Hino also dances around the issue of the game's online features and whether cross-region play will be possible. Check out the full interview after the break.

Rendered Speculation: Abarth Roadster stings again

The prospect of a stand-alone model from Abarth has been an on-again, off-again proposition. Currently, the revived label is backed by two models, Punto and 500, essentially upgraded performance versions of existing Fiat models. Interests were piqued, however, when the Fiat performance sub-division opened the doors on its new factory that incorporated space for a small assembly line, said to be earmarked for a standalone model. But then Abarth spokespeople said that wouldn't have been enough to build even a small run of road cars. Rumors then surfaced that the Scorpion marque was to collaborate with Lotus to come out with an Elise-based roadster. Now the rumor-millers at Auto Express have rendered their own idea of what form a dedicated Abarth sportscar could - or in their view, should - look like.

Rather than outsourcing to Lotus, AE thinks producing a unique two-seater based on the existing 500 would be more on the money. That'd mean a front-engine/front-wheel-drive setup, with the 1.4-liter turbo four carrying over in both standard (135hp) and "esse-esse" (158hp) spec. A lower center of gravity, lower curb weight and even more compact body, complete with removable roof panel, would keep the standalone Abarth nimble, while Ferrari-esque gizmos like the Fiat group's Torque Transfer Control (TTC) e-diff and shift-lights on the flat-bottomed steering wheel would help the fortunate driver keep the power under control. Of course this is all speculation and a bit of wishful thinking, but that doesn't remove it from the realm of possibility.

Logitech to Cut 15% of Global Workforce
Logitech is the latest company to begin slashing jobs

UK game sales post new record in 2008

Filed under:

The global economy may be in meltdown, but that didn't stop UK consumers from spending £4.03 billion ($5.97b) on games in 2008. ELSPA's data reveals that software sales were up 23%, while console sales increased by 14% over the prior year, reports GamesIndustry.biz.

Wii accounted for one quarter of the £1.90b ($2.87b) in software sales in 2008. From the report, it appears there was good news for all current systems, as they each seemed to receive software sales increases. ELSPA believes that the introduction of "family-based console titles" has really opened up the market to people who wouldn't normally play video games. Sounds like Microsoft agrees with ELSPA, having recently announced a Hasbro channel for XBLA coming this spring.

Create tilt-shifted photos with Tiltshiftmaker

Tilt-shifting, that spiffy photo effect that makes real people and objects look like part of a tiny toy set, has become really popular lately.

Tilt-shift time lapse videos by Keith Loutit were recently featured all over the Internet, inspiring others to figure out how to achieve the effect in their own photos. You could Google a step-by-step tutorial, or you could save yourself the trouble and use Tiltshiftmaker.

Pop a photo into Tiltshiftmaker, move the sliders around to choose the area you want to focus on, and that's all there is to it. It seems to work best with photos that are shot from above and from a distance. If you need some inspiration, there's also Tiltshiftmaker's gallery you can check out and add your own photos to.

Another shuffling of the deck in latest top 10 best selling PC game list

Filed under:

The NPD Group has provided their latest top 10 best seling PC games list for the US retail store market. Unfortunately the list, for the week ending December 27, is just a repeat of the same list from last week with some changes in positions.

As expected Blizzard's MMO expansion pack World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King remains in the number one spot but EA's The Sims 2Double Deluxe supplants Spore this week in the number 2 spot. Other than that, this new list is a bit of a yawner:

1. World Of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King - Blizzard
2. The Sims 2 Double Deluxe - Electronic Arts
3. Spore - Electronic Arts
4. Left 4 Dead - Valve/EA
5. The Sims 2 Apartment Life - Electronic Arts
6. Fallout 3 - Bethesda Softworks
7. Call Of Duty: World At War - Activision
8. World of Warcraft Battle Chest - Blizzard
9. The Sims 2 Mansion and Garden Stuff - Electronic Arts
10. Bejeweled Twist - Popcap Games

Site sponsored by the generous donations from our Sterling Silver Jewelry sister site. Please support them for supporting us! As it turns out I've spent a lot of time and energy in my jewelry business. That means that things around here have been lacking tremendously and I'm sorry for that! Things like Sterling Silver Jewelry have always been a little more important to me than little ventures like this. Maybe it's because I spent so much time handcrafting all of my own jewelry from scratch. That is I take all my jewelry and hand make the rings, and assemble them into bracelets, necklaces, and earrings to become complete Handmade sterling silver jewelry pieces that you see on my Archmaille Designs website. If I had more jewelry sales then things would be easier online for me to focus on this here site, but handmade jewelry sales are slim so I've still got a LOT of jewelry work to do before things are good to go, so to speak. Thanks for understanding that my handmade silver jewelry business is rather important and I will do what I can when I can for this one, but until then sterling silver jewelry remains the focus for me.
