53 mpg for the new Honda Insight in Europe? Now we're talking. Speaking of talking (and slippery talking at that), check out this "zero emissions" trip from one of the new Congressmen. Just barely in Congress and already we need to know what his definition of "zero emissions" is. Oh, and did you hear about the Detroit Auto Show forest?

Seen @ CES 2009: Urinal advertising reaches a new low
Filed under: Culture, CES "Your keyboard has 400 times the bacteria than this urinal!!!"
Wait a minute, wait a minute. You advertise on urinal pads and you use improper grammar? We've only got one question, Seal Shield. Mio launches four new Moov navigators at CES
There's no Turbo Boost or anything involved with this bunch, but Mio has launched four mildly interesting navigators for 2009. The new Moovs all sport an improved "Spirit" software platform, and while the S300 features a 3.5-inch panel, text-to-speech and 12 million POIs, the S500 steps up to a 4.7-inch panel. The Moov S556 keeps the same 4.7-inch display but adds in Bluetooth and Junction View, while the S700 breaks out a 7-inch panel. The whole lot is supposed to ship before the second half of this year for $199.99, $249.99, $299.99 and $299.99 in order of mention.

Smartparts introduces four new new digiframes from 2.4- to 19-inches
Smartparts is really aiming to span the full range of things here at CES by announcing four new digital photo frames that range from 2.4- to 19-inches in size. Starting on the small side, we've got the 2.4-inch SP24PC and 3.5-inch SP35PC, both of which tout touch sensitive screens and feature a 320 x 240 resolution. The only difference between the two is the amount of internal storage; the former holds around 50 images while the latter holds 100. Moving up significantly is the 10-inch SPX10WF (800 x 600 resolution) and the 19-inch SPX19WF (1,448 x 880), which tout one-push internet setup, automatic image correction and built-in WiFi modules. All four are slated to ship in March for $29.99, $39.99, $199.99 and $299.99 in order of mention. Full releases are after the break.Continue reading Smartparts introduces four new new digiframes from 2.4- to 19-inches Filed under: CES, Digital Cameras, Displays Smartparts introduces four new new digiframes from 2.4- to 19-inches originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 09 Jan 2009 03:30:00 EST. CES 2009: Zmak would love to show us all 12 hours of Prototype
Filed under: Action, CES
It might have meant nothing when Radical CEO Kelly Zmak told us that "he'd love to show [us] all 12 hours of Prototype." Maybe he didn't mean that the average gamer would get 12 hours out of the game. Maybe that's the time he's shaved his speed runs down to, maybe he just misspoke, we don't know.
But, for what it's worth, he mentioned 12 hours and Prototype, and we're delivering that knowledge factory fresh to your dome. Do with it what you will.CES 2009: Zmak would love to show us all 12 hours of Prototype originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 09 Jan 2009 02:30:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds. Gateway?s MD / UC Series laptops get reviewed
The ink is still drying from Gateway's introduction of the MD / UC Series, but already both machines have been thoroughly tested and reviewed. Starting with the more mainstream MD7801u, Gateway trimmed a number of features in hopes of producing a lower-cost machine that bargain-minded buyers would take interest in. To that end, there was nothing really remarkable about the MD, but that's exactly what the company was going for; all in all, it ended up as a solid, well-rounded rig that should handle basic tasks with ease. Moving down (size wise, anyway), the UC was deemed "incredibly stylish," and it was found to be impressive in pretty much every testable aspect. Of course, it won't handle gaming or hardcore video editing, but given the $799 price tag, we know you weren't expecting it to. Feel 'em both out in the read links below.

VAIO P vs Eee PC? fight!
digg_url = 'http://digg.com/gadgets/Sony_Vaio_P_vs_Eee_PC_vs_MacBook_Air_Fight'; We've got a VAIO P in the house, and we thought it'd only be fitting to put the quintessential "it's not a netbook, we swear!" up against the quintessential netbook, ASUS's Eee PC (in convenient 7-inch and 10-inch flavors). Stand by for further impressions, but boy is that screen densely packed with pixels. There's another shot after the break of the P being swallowed by a 17-inch MacBook Pro... juxtaposition!

1UP FM lives on (sort of) as Rebel FM
Filed under: Culture After the 1UPocalypse, the various pieces and people of the network were scattered to the wind. But like cockroaches that will rule our post-armageddon world, some of the team continues to live on. Beginning today, you can check out former staffers Anthony Gallegos, Nick Suttner, Philip Kollar, Matt Chandronait, Ryan O'Donnell and others in their new podcast, Rebel FM.
We're still broken up about the massive cuts, but we're happy to see that our friends have kept their fighting spirit. Show them some love and give them a listen, what do you say?

CES 2009: Behold the Resident Evil 5 Collectors Edition box
Filed under: Culture, CES You probably don't need more explanation than in the headline, but here it is: Resident Evil 5. Collector's Edition. Box. Behold! We actually have a few of these to give away, but we're not really sure we're going to go through all the effort. It is, after all, a box. A bitching box, yes. Top Global announces 3GSpot USB modem / WiFi hotspot
It doesn't exactly have a lot to show for itself just yet, but Top Global has just announced a reference design for what it claims is the world's first dual mode 3G USB modem and WiFi hotspot combo. Dubbed the 3GSpot, the device is software configurable to support all cellular standards, and the basic design is able to support multiple bands to ensure compatibility with carriers around the world, which Top Global says will let OEMs have one design/SKU that simply requires different firmwares for different markets. The device will apparently even boast on-board GPS "at no extra cost," not to mention all the usual security measures and, at just 2.5 x 4-inches, it'll be able to be integrated or simply offered as a standalone device. All that, of course, depends on some OEMs hopping on board, and Top Global unfortunately doesn't seem to be ready to announcing anything on that front just yet.Filed under: Peripherals, Wireless Top Global announces 3GSpot USB modem / WiFi hotspot originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 09 Jan 2009 00:28:00 EST. Site sponsored by the generous donations from our Sterling Silver Jewelry sister site. Please support them for supporting us! As it turns out I've spent a lot of time and energy in my jewelry business. That means that things around here have been lacking tremendously and I'm sorry for that! Things like Sterling Silver Jewelry have always been a little more important to me than little ventures like this. Maybe it's because I spent so much time handcrafting all of my own jewelry from scratch. That is I take all my jewelry and hand make the rings, and assemble them into bracelets, necklaces, and earrings to become complete Handmade sterling silver jewelry pieces that you see on my Archmaille Designs website. If I had more jewelry sales then things would be easier online for me to focus on this here site, but handmade jewelry sales are slim so I've still got a LOT of jewelry work to do before things are good to go, so to speak. Thanks for understanding that my handmade silver jewelry business is rather important and I will do what I can when I can for this one, but until then sterling silver jewelry remains the focus for me.
