CES 2009: Hands-on with Nyko?s replacement Wiimote, The Wand
Filed under: Nintendo Wii, CES, Peripherals
It's common knowledge that the Wii's third-party games generally pale in comparison to Nintendo's first-party efforts. But it seems as though that same observation will no longer be true about the system's controllers when Nyko rolls out its Wiimote replacement, The Wand, in April or May of this year. We took the controller for a spin (and a twist and a wave) earlier today at the company's CES booth.Continue reading CES 2009: Hands-on with Nyko's replacement Wiimote, The Wand CES 2009: Hands-on with Nyko's replacement Wiimote, The Wand originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 08 Jan 2009 19:14:00 EST. Autoline on Autoblog with John McElroy
Filed under: Autoline on Autoblog What is an "American" Car?
I get a lot of people asking me to define exactly what is an American car? Is it a vehicle made by one of the Detroit automakers, yet assembled in Canada, Mexico, or some other country? Or is it a vehicle made by a Japanese, European, or Korean company with assembly plants in America? Or is it something in between?
In other words, is a Toyota Camry built in Kentucky an American car? Or is a Ford Fusion that's made in Mexico an import?
John McElroy is host of the TV program "Autoline Detroit" and daily web video "Autoline Daily". Every week he brings his unique insights as an auto industry insider to Autoblog readers.Continue reading Autoline on Autoblog with John McElroy Autoline on Autoblog with John McElroy originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 08 Jan 2009 19:01:00 EST. PSN Thursday: Qore drills deep into Killzone 2
Filed under: Sony PlayStation 3
If you listened carefully, you might have heard the PSN update this week. It was really small and didn't make much noise, but we assure you ... it happened. It added a new episode of Qore and two new DLC games, including Cuboid. Beyond that, there's new tracks for everyone's favorite plastic instrument games. The complete North American PSN update can be found after the break.
PS3 Fanboy has the European PSN update, but it isn't much better over there either.Continue reading PSN Thursday: Qore drills deep into Killzone 2 PSN Thursday: Qore drills deep into Killzone 2 originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 08 Jan 2009 18:47:00 EST. REPORT: PSA will rebadge and sell the Mitsubishi i MiEV in Europe

France's PSA Group, which includes Peugeot and Citroen, will be jumping into the electric car game in 2011 courtesy of Mitsubishi. The Japanese carmaker will start selling its i MiEV later this year in Japan and will reportedly supply a re-badged version to sell through European dealers. Mitsubishi is planning to start with just 2,000 examples this year, with plans to double that volume each year over the next few years. With the additional volume going to PSA, the total number of cars is expected to double with half going to the French. That will mean Lithium Energy Japan, the JV between Mitsubishi and GS Yuasa will also have to crank up its production volumes. There are already some examples of the iMiEV being tested by electric utilities here in the US, but Mitsubishi hasn't yet committed to actually selling the car here.

Macworld 2009: IPEVO shows off photo frames and more
Filed under: Macworld, Accessories, Hardware
Peripheral vendor IPEVO may have just dipped a toe in the Mac market last year with compatible iChat and Skype speakerphone devices, but it looks like a full-court press coming from them in 2009. At Macworld Expo, IPEVO is showing a full suite of audio (conference phones, handsets and more for VoIP services and iChat), video (a slimline camera) and especially photos -- the upcoming Kaleida digital frames, showing here and at CES, look remarkably good. The wired and wireless frames, expected to ship in March under the $200 price point, allow for photo offloads from memory cards or from the Mac, subscription to Flickr or RSS feeds, and selected Google widgets (weather, calendar, news or financial data), all on a bright 7" screen. You can control the displayed content from your computer, or via a handy iPhone app. We took a brief photo and video tour of the new products in the Dr. Bott vendor pavilion. Enjoy! Apple releases iWork 09
Filed under: Text, Utilities, Office, Productivity, Web services, Apple, Beta, web 2.0 It's been almost 17 months to the day since Apple last made significant (paid) updates to their flagship iWork productivity suite, but the company has announced that iWork 09 is now available.
All three iWork applications have seen updates, and Apple has also announced an iWork.com Public Beta allowing users to view and comment on iWork documents.
Among the changes to the desktop applications, Keynote allows you to animate objects automatically, whilst the Smart Move option allows you to slickly animate objects between slides. Pages, the iWork word processor, now ships with a built in 'Full Screen' mode for full-focus writing, and outline mode for project organization. There's also another 40 templates for your documents in this new version. The Numbers spreadsheet application allows you to categorize data far more quickly than in previous versions, includes an enhanced function browser and a formula list to quickly jump around your documents.
iWork '09 is available for $79 from the Apple Store.Apple releases iWork 09 originally appeared on Download Squad on Thu, 08 Jan 2009 18:00:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

New Flock screenshots flock out from Capcom
Filed under: Downloads, Casual, Puzzle, Screenshots
Capcom continues their media burst from CES today with a whopping 25 new screenshots from Flock, their first downloadable game for 2009. The game from developer Proper Games is due out this February and looks to be something that's out of the norm for a Capcom published title.
As we have mentioned before your task is your herd a number of farm animals, Lemmings-style, into a UFO through a series of puzzle-filled levels. While the game is scheduled for release next month there's been no word yet on pricing. We just hope Capcom released the PC version in a more timely manner than they did with the PC release of Age of Booty...which we are still waiting on, by the way.

Caffeinated Performance: Fill ?er up? with Starbucks?!
Filed under: Etc., Green, Tech If researchers at the University of Nevada prove successful, America's growing caffeine addiction may have at least one major plus side. Apparently, used coffee grounds are between 10- and 15 percent oil, and that's a potential source of energy. Even better, the oil is apparently easy to extract, so experts suggest that the resulting biodiesel could be priced as low as $1 dollar a gallon, which is quite a bit better than what petroleum-based diesel fuel is selling for, even after recent price drops.
Sure, there may not be enough spent coffee beans around the world to completely displace our dependence on petroleum, but every little bit helps. Perhaps the best bit of news is that the fuel retains its coffee smell, and that's reason enough for us to get behind the idea. Thanks for the tip, Luke!
