CyWee brings its 3D game controller and streaming media device to CES
It looks like that CyWee Z game controller that Engadget Chinese got its hands on a couple months ago will be showing its face at CES this week. Essentially a 3D USB mouse, the device utilizes a dual-axis gyroscope -- the first game controller to do so, according to the company. This guy can be used either straight up (for that classic Wiimote vibe) or folded into the rough approximation of a gun -- you know, for games where you shoot things. It's unclear whether or not the company's game console will be making the trip as well (we know how much you love off-brand Chinese game consoles!) but visitors to their booth can also expect to see CyWee X -- an 802.11n-based media streaming solution that delivers audio and video to your television in 1080p resolution. More pictures of the lovable device after the break.

Nissan GT-R SpecV: Details, live images and video

Click above for a high-res gallery of the Nissan GT-R SpecV
Nissan's press release on the GT-R SpecV left a lot of unanswered questions, particularly the geeky tidbits that we thrive on. So with the help of our friends at the GTRBlog, who were on hand for the unveiling in Japan, and a few of our super-secret sources abroad, we were able to scrounge up some of the more salient details on Nissan's upgraded Godzilla.

Boxee opens up alpha, adds iPlayer support for UK users
Filed under: Software, Apple TV
It isn't just about Macworld; shockingly there is some other tech news happening this week as well. Our pals over at boxee have just announced a new version, some love for UK users and some great news: no more invites needed!
Instead of hounding me (I kid, I never minded) for a boxee invite, you can sign-up yourself at boxee.tv/join and get downloads for the Mac, Apple TV and Ubuntu. The Windows alphas are still in closed testing, but progress is moving quickly.
Here's a run-down on what's new and improved:
- iPlayer support for UK users -- no more crying over the lack of overseas Hulu; you can now get the iPlayer via boxee
- Joost support
- MTV Music support
- dual-screen support
- Netflix improvements
- search in Hulu
- updates to the SMB library
Netflix is still only working on the Mac and not on the Apple TV, but this is a great update. I've been seeing some of the private builds and the improvements are nice. A reminder, boxee is still in alpha, but the development process is on a tear!

CES 2009: ?Real? Pip-Boy revealed, Vault-Tec stock soars
Filed under: Culture
In the bowels of CES, Engadget discovered the first sign that the nuclear holocaust foretold in the Fallout series is approaching. Yes, what you see above is a Pip-Boy prototype. Sure, Universal Display Corporation hasn't given a name to its 4-inch, flexible, wrist-worn OLED display (designed for the Brotherhood of Steel military), but we know exactly what we'll be using this handy thing for in the future -- well, those of us who survive, at least.
Perhaps we can put this in a way that'll convey the seriousness of this situation:
Step 1: Pip-Boy invented. Step 2: ??? Step 3: Nuclear holocaust.
Check out a video of the device after the break. Raiders of the Lost Truck: Mitsubishi killing forgotten pickup
Filed under: Trends, Trucks/Pickups, Mitsubishi
Don't look now, but the U.S. is quickly losing its supply of small-volume, badge-engineered trucks. Just yesterday, we learned that at month's end, Isuzu plans to shut off the trickling flow that is its passenger vehicle business in the States, taking the Ascender SUV and i-Series pickups along with it. Today, there is word that Mitsubishi will drop the Raider pickup, itself a substantially restyled Dodge Dakota.
According to Automotive News, the slow-selling carryall will tuck into oblivion sometime mid next-year, as Mitsubishi looks to overhaul its product lineup in order to focus more on fuel-efficient small cars. In its present form, the Raider has been around since 2005, and while it it has never been a big seller, last year, the mid-size pickup sold under 3,000 units. Interestingly, an often overlooked and altogether different Raider was marketed as a Dodge-branded rework of the Mitsubishi Montero SUV in the late Nineties.
With America's badge-engineered workadays dropping like flies, how long will it be until the Grim Reaper shows up at the door, lookig for the Mazda B-Series? Who will save the children? Buy them while you can, folks.

CES 2009: Hands-on with Nyko?s replacement Wiimote, The Wand
Filed under: Nintendo Wii, CES, Peripherals
It's common knowledge that the Wii's third-party games generally pale in comparison to Nintendo's first-party efforts. But it seems as though that same observation will no longer be true about the system's controllers when Nyko rolls out its Wiimote replacement, The Wand, in April or May of this year. We took the controller for a spin (and a twist and a wave) earlier today at the company's CES booth.Continue reading CES 2009: Hands-on with Nyko's replacement Wiimote, The Wand CES 2009: Hands-on with Nyko's replacement Wiimote, The Wand originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 08 Jan 2009 19:14:00 EST. Autoline on Autoblog with John McElroy
Filed under: Autoline on Autoblog What is an "American" Car?
I get a lot of people asking me to define exactly what is an American car? Is it a vehicle made by one of the Detroit automakers, yet assembled in Canada, Mexico, or some other country? Or is it a vehicle made by a Japanese, European, or Korean company with assembly plants in America? Or is it something in between?
In other words, is a Toyota Camry built in Kentucky an American car? Or is a Ford Fusion that's made in Mexico an import?
John McElroy is host of the TV program "Autoline Detroit" and daily web video "Autoline Daily". Every week he brings his unique insights as an auto industry insider to Autoblog readers.Continue reading Autoline on Autoblog with John McElroy Autoline on Autoblog with John McElroy originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 08 Jan 2009 19:01:00 EST. Wazabee brings glass-free 3D to the iPhone
Filed under: Macworld, Multimedia, Odds and ends, iPhone, iPod touch At Macworld 2009, I've seen some cool stuff, but Wazabee's 3DeeShell for the iPhone wins my show pick for most unexpected cool product. The pitch sounds cheesy; it's an iPhone case that lets you view stuff in 3D, no glasses required. This is why it isn't cheesy: it works.
We're working on getting the video edited and working properly (because seeing really is believing), but I was most impressed with this technology. The 3DeeShell consists of an iPhone case (and it's actually a nice case) with a removable screen. The screen, when viewed at the right angle (and I found it very easy to get on the right angle) will show movies, pictures or games that support its 3D processing technology in 3D.
Right now, Wazabee has several apps in the App Store: 3DeeCamera [iTunes link], 3Dee!oader [iTunes link] and 3DeeVUsion [iTunes link] that allow you to view and encode your images so that they are viewable in 3D. These apps support 3D glasses right now, but they'll work with the 3DeeShell when it launches in March.

Additionally, developers can contact Wazabee to get access to the SDK, so that apps and other games can be built with support for 3D viewing.
The 3DeeShell is scheduled for release in March 2009 for $50 US. This summer, Wazabee will be introducing a screen attachment for the 13" MacBooks (larger series to follow) that will allow for viewing of 3D content on your MacBook screen. It utilizes the Eye-Sight cam to make sure the screen is always aligned for the best 3D view.
Video is on the way, but this was too cool not to share now. TUAWWazabee brings glass-free 3D to the iPhone originally appeared on The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) on Thu, 08 Jan 2009 19:00:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

PSN Thursday: Qore drills deep into Killzone 2
Filed under: Sony PlayStation 3
If you listened carefully, you might have heard the PSN update this week. It was really small and didn't make much noise, but we assure you ... it happened. It added a new episode of Qore and two new DLC games, including Cuboid. Beyond that, there's new tracks for everyone's favorite plastic instrument games. The complete North American PSN update can be found after the break.
PS3 Fanboy has the European PSN update, but it isn't much better over there either.Continue reading PSN Thursday: Qore drills deep into Killzone 2 PSN Thursday: Qore drills deep into Killzone 2 originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 08 Jan 2009 18:47:00 EST. REPORT: PSA will rebadge and sell the Mitsubishi i MiEV in Europe
Filed under: Economy, Green, Hatchbacks, Mitsubishi, Peugeot, Citroen
Click above to view a high-res gallery of the Mitsubishi i MiEV
France's PSA Group, which includes Peugeot and Citroen, will be jumping into the electric car game in 2011 courtesy of Mitsubishi. The Japanese carmaker will start selling its i MiEV later this year in Japan and will reportedly supply a re-badged version to sell through European dealers. Mitsubishi is planning to start with just 2,000 examples this year, with plans to double that volume each year over the next few years. With the additional volume going to PSA, the total number of cars is expected to double with half going to the French. That will mean Lithium Energy Japan, the JV between Mitsubishi and GS Yuasa will also have to crank up its production volumes. There are already some examples of the iMiEV being tested by electric utilities here in the US, but Mitsubishi hasn't yet committed to actually selling the car here.
